Vintage Space Age Silver Ring Holder | Sputnik Design

A wonderfully unusual piece of 1990s Space Age design, this sculptural ring holder has the unmistakable look of a miniature Sputnik satellite. With its polished spherical body, slender legs and three antenna-like extensions, it is as much a piece of vintage design as it is a practical jewellery holder.

The ring holder opens into two separate sections, creating a clever space for storing rings and other small pieces of jewellery. Its futuristic form makes it particularly appealing to collectors of Space Age, mid-century-inspired and modernist design.

This unusual piece was purchased from Simon Rees at Columbia Road Market, Bethnal Green, and was described at the time of purchase as a prototype piece dating from around the 1990s. Simon Rees is an established British jeweller who worked from Columbia Road and has a documented history of collaboration with designers including Alexander McQueen.

Please note: the piece has markings on one of the legs, but these cannot be clearly deciphered, so we are not attributing the maker or silver purity. It is being sold for its distinctive design, provenance and collectability.
