Poole Pottery Delphis Shape 82 Spear Dish by Angela Wyburgh c.1968
A striking example of Poole Pottery Delphis, this elongated Shape 82 spear dish features wonderfully expressive hand-painted decoration in rich hues of blue, green, orange and burgundy.
The long, sculptural form gives the decoration plenty of impact. The design combines sweeping abstract shapes with bold colour and layered brushwork, creating the distinctive artistic character associated with Poole Delphis pottery.
The dish carries the Poole Pottery factory mark together with the distinctive decorator’s mark associated with Angela Wyburgh. Wyburgh decorated Delphis pieces during the late 1960s, and her individual painted designs form an important part of the appeal of collectible Poole pottery.
Dating to around 1968, this example showcases the exuberant colours and free-form decoration that made Delphis such an important part of British mid-century ceramic design.
At approximately 17 inches (43cm) long and 7 inches (18cm) wide, the impressive spear-shaped form makes a wonderful decorative statement. Display it on a shelf, sideboard or wall-mounted plate display where its unusual shape and colourful decoration can really be appreciated.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition.
The dish has no crazing and presents beautifully.
Please note that the glaze contains areas of natural mottling and variation, creating a slightly textured, layered appearance across the surface. These glaze characteristics form part of the original decorative finish and are clearly visible in the photographs.
